Annotated Russian Texts Великий пожар в Лондоне The Great Fire of London Ольга: "Привет, Пётр. Как школа?" Olga: Hi Peter. How was school? Пётр: "А, отлично! Был очень интересный урок истории." Peter: Oh, it was great! The history lesson was very interesting. Ольга: "Неужели? И что ты узнал?" Olga: Really? What did you learn? Пётр: "Мы изучали Великий лондонский пожар. Он уничтожил четыре пятых Лондона в 1666 году." Peter: We studied the "Great Fire of London". It destroyed four fifths of London in 1666. Ольга: "Ужас какой!" Olga: That's horrible! Пётр: "Вообще-то пожар спас больше человеческих жизней, чем погубил." Peter: The fire actually saved more human lives that it killed. Ольга: "Как такое возможно?" Olga: How is that possible? Пётр: "Пожар убил много крыс, которые переносили чуму. После пожара число жертв чумы быстро сократилось." Peter: The fire killed a lot of rats which helped to transmit the plague.
